WASHINGTON – The following is a statement from Ken Cook, Environmental Working Group president and co-founder, on the election of Donald Trump to a second term:
Every polluter in America rejoices today in the election of Donald Trump. They are joined by elated polluters around the world.
For every business whose profit depends on the toxic contamination of food, air, water and people with impunity, Trump’s victory is an occasion to celebrate.
EWG is beyond proud to have earned the trust of tens of millions of supporters, across the country and the political spectrum, including millions of Trump supporters, in our 30-plus years of advocacy. We know they count on EWG’s science and clear-eyed advice to help live healthier lives in a healthier environment, and to avoid exposure to toxic contaminants and pollutants in everyday life.
In the years ahead, EWG will redouble, then redouble again, our commitment to serve that purpose and need.
EWG is equally resolved to do everything in our power to repel the assault we know the Trump administration will mount on America’s proud tradition of environmental protection.
Trump’s return to the White House guarantees a reinvigorated, concerted assault on environmental safeguards that he triumphantly unleashed on day one of his first term.
EWG will make it a priority to help people who, for whatever reason, voted to reelect Trump, examine and understand the environmental consequences of their decision.
Trump’s election means increased, environmentally caused human suffering, illness and death from toxic chemicals and pollutants. It means serious degradation of natural resources — our air, rivers, land and wildlife — that will not be repaired for decades, if ever.
If you voted for Trump, you own that.
